Dimapur, June 25 (MExN): The Indian Academy of Pediatrics Nagaland branch and NTEP under Central TB Division (CTD), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India jointly conducted a one-day workshop on ‘childhood tuberculosis training’ at Zion Hospital and Research Centre on June 24. 

The Dr K Vikato Kinimi, Principal Director Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland was the guest of honour. He stressed on the need to focus on tuberculosis associated with HIV and to focus on DOTS therapy. 

CMO Dimapur District Hospital, Dr Moatemjen was the observer from Nagaland Medical Council and spoke on the burden of TB in Nagaland. Dr Akumtoshi, who is the cordinator for NTEP workshop in Nagaland and Treasurer IAP Nagaland spoke on the diagnostic approach of TB in children.

The other speakers were Dr Zubenthung Kithan, Consultant Pediatrician from Faith hospital, Dr Wonashi, Consultant Pediatrician CIHSR, Dr Deepak Jain and Dr Benchilo. The topics covered approach to treatment and case scenarios in tuberculosis. Dr Benchilo, DTO emphasized on the importance of case reporting which is required by the law and explained the different incentives given by the government. The high quality of TB treatment from the government DOTS center was reemphasized during the discussion hour.

Dr Wapang Imchen, General Secretary, IAP Nagaland and consultant at Dimapur District Hospital gave the vote of thanks.
