Adolescent girls sensitised on health issues
Dimapur, November 23 (MExN): CHILDLINE Dimapur, as part of the ongoing countrywide CHILDLINE Se Dosti campaign since November 6, conducted a health and CHILDLINE awareness programme for adolescent girls studying in class 6 and 7 at Sacred Heart School under Toulazouma Village, Dimapur on November 10.
The main objective of the programme was to motivate and educate the girls present to improve their health, disease prevention and reduce risky behaviours. A session on “health and hygiene” focusing on menstruation cycle, its symptoms and management was taken by Aligha V Yeptho, a counsellor under CHILDLINE Dimapur. Yeptho concluded by advising the students to consult adult females in the family or adult female relatives if they face any irregularity or problems in their menstruation cycle.
Sanitary pads were also distributed to the students where Lozua Kape, CHILDLINE Dimapur centre coordinator, demonstrated the proper usage of sanitary pads. Kape cautioned that adolescent girls are vulnerable and biologically more susceptible to reproductive infections, so she advised them to maintain their health and hygiene regularly.
The students were also educated about the toll free CHILDLINE helpline number 1098 which is manned 24x7. They were requested to call CHILDLINE helpline or to inform adults if they witness, or are aware of, children being abused, abandoned, missing, loitering around or in distress situation.
In conclusion the students were informed about the concept of “CHILDINE se Dosti” campaign.
