Children in Amur Falcon countryside celebrates Earth Day

Pangti, April 22 (MExN): Earth Day was celebrated at Pangti Community Hall by three Eco Clubs under the aegis of the Nagaland Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Trust. The clubs namely Eni Num Eco-Club in Pangti, Vungi Eco-club, Sungro and Yakpo Eco Club in Okotso have been established since 2013 following story of the slaughter of the migratory birds over the Doyang reservoir in Wokha disrict.

A press release stated that the day was observed under the theme “Nature has made nothing in vain, but our cruelness makes it vain.”

The programme was chaired by SLongshibemo Shitio Educator Okotso Eco-club. Invocation was pronounced by Bijamo Yanthan Associate Pastor Baptist church Pangti. He encouraged the children telling that caring for the earth and creation was a biblical mission and messing with nature can bring about disastrous consequences sometimes, life threatening.

The show was led by students of the Eninum Eco club who performed a skit they developed on the extinction of birds and its impact on the environment. They also enacted a mime “Who am I?”. This was a participatory game where the actors enact the sound and behaviour of animals and the audience have to guess the name of the animal. The significance of Earth day was narrated by Janbemo N. Odyuo Educator Vungi Eco-club.
