Children in Street Situation: Stakeholders trained on SOP.2.0

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): Training on the Standard of Operating Procedure for Care and Protection of Children in Street Situation (SOP.2.0) on identification, rescue and rehabilitation of children in street situation was held at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur on March 25.

It was organized by State Child Protection Society, Child Protection Services, Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) Regional Centre, Guwahati, Assam.

Various stakeholders such as District Child Protection Officers, Child Welfare Committees, ChildLine, Police (Special Juvenile Police Unit-SJPU, Anti- Human Trafficking Unit, Women Police Station, and Railway Station Police), Open Shelter and District Legal Service Authority attended the training.

The resource person, Thangzamawi Guite, Assistant Director, Regional Centre, Guwahati Assam started the session emphasized on the Role and importance of Open Shelter Home which are unique Shelter Homes specifically for Street Children. The Open Shelter run by Community Education Centre (CEC) Dimapur shared their experiences on working with these children at Dimapur district. 

Guite familiarized the participants on the SOP.2.0 developed by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. 
Nokcharenla Longchar, Director, Child Protection Services informed the participants that as per the directives of Supreme Court all the States and Union Territories are to implement the SOP at the earliest. However, there is no clear understanding on the definition among the stakeholders and hoped that this training will not only enlighten us on these issues but also help us to work together in better coordination. 

Pikato Tuccu, District Child Protection Officer Dimapur gave the welcome address and Rokokhriele Seuno, Programme Officer IEC & Training, SCPS gave the concluding remark. The programme was chaired by Esther Sumi, Protection Officer, NIC, DCPU, Dimapur.
