Chümoukedima DC restricts activities near NH-29

Chümoukedima, June 20 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Polan John, NCS, has issued a public advisory restricting various activities in close proximity to National Highway-29, citing serious risks to the highway’s structural integrity and public safety.

The district administration observed that activities such as quarrying, earth cutting, construction work, and the setting up of temporary fruit and vegetable stalls are being carried out near the highway, including within areas under the Right of Way.

“These activities pose a significant risk to the structural integrity of the highway and endanger public safety by increasing the likelihood of soil erosion, landslides, highway blockades, encroachments, subsidence and potentially fatal accidents,” the DC stated in a notice. In view of the potential hazards, the administration has advised all individuals, village councils, and stakeholders to refrain from engaging in such operations that may undermine the stability and safety of NH-29 and its users.

The DC urged full cooperation from the public to safeguard the durability of the highway and ensure the safety of commuters. “Any activity found to be detrimental to the safety and integrity of NH-29 may invite necessary legal action as per applicable laws and regulations,” the advisory stated.
