
Cautions govt agencies against illegal collections
Chümoukedima, November 18 (MExN): The Naga Tribal Union, Chümoukedima (NTUCT), Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce & Trade Association (CCCTA), and the Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) on Friday issued a statement reiterating the ‘One Government One Tax’ resolution adopted on October 31, 2013.
Presidents of the three organisations, Lhousito Khro (NTUCT), James Kin (CCCTA), and Hovise Naleo (CTYO) stated that they have resolved to oppose any illegal taxation, demands through intimidation and threat perception. Stating that it is tantamount to violation of cease fire ground rules, the organizations also instructed the business community to immediately communicate to their offices if any such instances occur.
“We at the same time appeal the Naga national workers to pay respect to the loud cry of the people for ‘One Government, One Tax’ the historic resolution adopted on October 31, 2013. We strongly reaffirm to implement in letter and in spirit, the said resolution,” the statement read.
According to them, the statement was necessitated in the wake of “numerous complains pouring in against unabated demand, taxation, intimidation and issue summon letters from the office of various national workers, some individuals in the garbs of national workers meeting the owners and entrepreneurs of those running businesses and commercial enterprises on regular basis causing untold mental tensions within our jurisdiction.”
Condemning such unhealthy practices meted out against the citizens who are struggling to establish their foothold through various odds and challenges, it asserted that any organization or individual out to exploit the business community would be treated as the enemy of the society.
When economy and businesses flourish, the people as a whole prosper and progress, “We wish to see our own people who are interested in businesses groom-up to compete at par with their counter parts from other states of the country,” it said while underscoring the responsibly and obligation of all sensible people to encourage them by creating a conducive atmosphere.
“At the onset of the festive season coupled with culminations of all sorts of year ending expenditures looming large, there will come lots of antisocial elements doing the round in the crowded business places out to commit shop lifting and pickpockets any vulnerable victims. We caution one and all to remain top alert and raise alarm to nab the culprits,” the organisations stated.
Meanwhile, it also cited reports ‘from a reliable source’ that unofficial personnel from the Forest Department, Government of Nagaland “are moving around demanding cash from the sand dealers and stone crusher units. Such person(s) should immediately cease their illegal acts before being caught and their antecedents exposed in the public domain to face the consequences which they are well aware of,” it said.
Additionally, the organizations also drew attention to observations of “Traffic Police personnel regularly conduct frisking and checking of the interstate bound Trucks and Buses at random places, that also only during night fall.”
“Is this at the behest of the Commissioner of Police or is it not in his knowledge?” it posed.
