Dimapur, December 8 (MExN): The Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) has informed that from 2019, the facility of the ABCC, particularly Baptist High, should not be approached to conduct recruitment exams and the likes on Sundays.
This was stated in a press release from Rev. Dr. V Atsi Dolie, Executive Director of the ABCC, in compliance with the concerns raised by the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum that Sundays should be kept “holy, sacred and free from entertaining activities which can be done on other weekdays.” The ABCC remained concerned that “the sanctity of Sundays is being defiled in many forms, and that it will support any movement to reclaim and make Sunday a God-honoring Day.”
Meanwhile, the Dimapur Christian Forum (DCF) has appealed government departments not to conduct public exams on Sundays but on working days. This was in view of recruitment examinations for the social welfare department and taxes department which are slated to be conducted today, December 9.
“For most observant Christians, Sunday is observed as a day of worship and rest, holding it as the Lord's Day and the day of Christ's resurrection. Nagaland being a Christian State we need to keep this precept to live one’s life as Christian and also to inspire others,” stated a press release from Rev. Moses Murry, Chairperson of the DCF.
He added that “The faithful are obliged to attend the service unless there is a grave impediment, pastors have the corresponding duty to offer everyone the real possibility of fulfilling the precept and it should be seen as a need rising from the depths of Christian life.”
