DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 25 (MExN): The Christian Forum Dimapur (CFD) has raised concern over the need to strengthen and emphasize the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act 1989.
While appreciating the initiative taken by the Dimapur Naga Students Union and other NGOs on the issue, a press statement issued by the Forum’s chairman Rev Dr CP Anto and secretary, Rev. Moses Murry on Tuesday stated that Nagaland, though declared as a dry state as per the NLTP Act 1989, has been just on paper and not in action.
It pointed out that over the span of 30 years since the Act was passed, many organizations had been fighting tooth and nail in order to uproot all evils of liquor and its implications throughout Nagaland. However, despite all efforts made, there have been loopholes and the inflow and supplies of liquor appear to have increased.
Towards this, the Forum urged the state government and relevant agencies to exert more legal obligation and strengthen the old-aged NLTP Act 1989 and at the same time called upon the right-thinking organizations and people to come forward for the noble initiative of anti-liquor movement which will eventually reduce violence, social conflicts, law and order issues and crimes.
This will enable our communities to embrace qualitative livelihood and living standards which needs to be given importance, it added.
Meanwhile, in line with the demand of the DNSU, the Forum also urged the concerned authority to shut down all the liquor outlets in the state.
