Dimapur, April 23 (MExN): The Christian Forum of Dimapur has requested to all concerned to ensure the Sunday holiday by observing all the Sundays of the year as days in which the shops, except for lifesaving medicines and related activities, to remain closed.
The Forum on behalf of the Christian Churches of Dimapur made this appeal through a representation to the DC issued by Rev. L. Bizo (Chairman), Dr. P Dozo (Vice Chairman) Fr. Chacko Karinthayil (Secretary).
“Dimapur is the business capital of Nagaland. It is also a multicultural society. In the past all the business establishments remained closed on Sundays”, the Forum pointed out. Stating that this was very beneficial to all sections of the society, especially the Christian community, which considers the Sunday as a sacred day, the Forum however lamented that in the recent past it had been observed that more and more business establishments are remaining open on Sundays.
The Christian Forum Dimapur therefore express that Sunday is a universal Holiday, and on this day the Christians worship God in the Churches, congregations and families and believing communities. Quoting that the Bible commands us to strictly observe the Sabbath day, which becomes “Sunday” (the first day of the week) in the New Testament, the day of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It cannot be denied that Sunday is the basis of Christian heritage, which lays strong foundation of a stable society and nation.
As Christians, believing the Bible, and as a land of Christians, opening shops and shopping on Sundays either voluntary or by force is unchristian, it maintained. It will break the spirit of worship in churches and families. It is known to one and all that churches are centers of correction reformation, change and education under God.
Dishonoring the sanctity of the day of worship is directly dishonoring God since the way we observe Sunday reflects our spiritual stability and living relationship with God. It must be termed as disobedience to God, which will invite his disapproval and judgment.
