Christmas card with AIDS theme hits market

Kohima | November 27: A special Christmas card with the message on HIV and AIDS hit the market in Nagaland. This special Christmas card was developed by YouthNet for Nagaland State AIDS Control Society as part of Multi Media Campaign (MMC)- Red Ribbon Superstar Campaign to spread awareness on HIV and AIDS in Nagaland.
The sketching was done by Canato Jimomi. Designed with an ethnic touch, the cards carried slogan like; “Prevention is the only cure for HIV and AIDS,” “Christmas is the season of love. Let’s love and care for those who are HIV+ by not discriminating them,” “Talk about the facts of HIV and AIDS to reduce stigma and discrimination,” “Jesus loves everyone, including those who are HIV+. Why should we discriminate?”
Priced at Rs. 20, the card is now available in some card outlets in the state capital. Mention may be made that HIV prevalence rate in Nagaland has come down to 0.78% since December 2010 from that of 1.27% till October 2010.  3933 AIDS case was reported in which 2141 belong to male and 1792 female as per the report of AIDS case surveillance since 1994-June 2011.
AIDS related death is 552, out of which 280 are male, 220 female and 52 children. Heterosexual with 87% topped the route of HIV transmission (2010-11) in Nagaland, followed by PPTCT 5%, infected N/S- 4%, homosexual 2%, not specified 2 % and through blood 0%.  Age distribution of HIV+ case 2006-11 in Nagaland is as follows; 25- 49 years- 74%, 15-24 years- 16%, 14 years- 7%, 50 years- 3% and not specified- 0%.
