Various Church leaders during the sensitization programme conducted on HIV & AIDS amongst the Churches under Diphupar-B area on March 25, at the Sumi Baptist Church Diphupar B, Dimapur.
Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Development Outreach (NDO) which is the developmental wing of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has conducted a sensitisation programme on HIV & AIDS for the Church leaders (amongst the Churches under Diphupar-B area) on March 25 at the Sumi Baptist Church Diphupar B, and supported by CRS.
A press note issued by T. Abraham, project manager, Positive Living Center, NDO informed that the programme was well represented by 45 leaders from different tribe/community who included the pastors, deacons, teachers, women and youth. The programme began with Vikheho, counselor NDO who highlighted their various activities rendered by the NDO and through Positive Living Centre (PLC) which is the service delivery centre of life-Aid project for the people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV). T. Abraham, project manager shared about the HIV/AIDS scenario of Nagaland and basic information on HIV/AIDS, route of transmission, its impact and consequences, mode of prevention, myths and misconceptions and encouraged the participants to be model Christian leaders.
The note also mentioned that Vikheho, spoke on the role of Churches in addressing HIV & AIDS, stigma and discrimination. He stressed on the holistic approach of the Church and by its elders. He shared in depth in comparison with the life of Jesus towards the sick and the needy. He also stressed on the need to erase the negative attitude towards the PLHIV and treat them equally as any other normal human being and urged the Church leaders to lead from the front and to be proactive to accept the reality and to show love and compassion while dealing with the PLHIV and its related issues.
Ahimsa, counselor spoke on the topic role of churches in addressing HIV & AIDS, care and support. She began her session with a query on the role and expectation of and from the church leaders.
Moreover, she highlighted that most of the PLHIVs are from poor background and the need arises to give motivation and spiritual counseling wile dealing with PLHIVs which is considered as an inner healing force in addition to acre and support. She urged and encouraged the leaders and others to show god example love, compassion, respect and care which is the most important aspect while deleing with the PLHIVs.
