Churches encouraged to come forward against AIDS

Mokokchung, July 27 (DIPR): A one-day advocacy workshop, organised by the Care & Support Society, Mokokchung, and sponsored by the Nagaland Legislators Forum on AIDS, was held on July 24 at the Changtongya Town Hall. The programme was chaired by Asenla, Counsellor at DIC Impangkong.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, L Yanger, vice-president of the NPF Mokokchung division, said that HIV/AIDS has become the worst enemy of the society, as it is an incurable disease. He encouraged the churches and NGOs to come forward and take the initiative through indirect counselling, financial support and to spread awareness messages so as to reach all people.

Dr. Vinito L Chishi, State Coordinator for the Nagaland Legislators Forum on HIV/AIDS, spoke on the contribution made by the MLAs towards the cause and the duties and responsibilities that lie ahead for everyone.

The welcome speech was delivered by Imchawati Kichu, Managing Director of CSS Mokokchung, while short speeches were delivered by Toshi Jamir, chairman of the Town Council, and Chubawati Chang, SDO(C) Changtongya. Dr. Marina Yaden, SMO Changtongya, spoke on HIV, TB, RNTCP, while Alemla R Jamir, MO, ART, IMTH Mokokchung, spoke on ART.

The programme was attended by Changtongya area pastors, women workers, Village Council representatives, the Watsü and Grace Society, 22 Arkakong NPF youths, and by NGOs. Discussions, feedback and drawing of action plan were also conducted.
