CIH webinar on production technology and post harvest management of horti crops

Dimapur, September 4 (MExN): The Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema, conducted a two-day webinar on ‘Production Technology and Post Harvest Management of Horticulture Crops’ from September 3-4. 

The objective of the webinar was to disseminate the latest production technologies, processing and value addition and value chain development in pineapple and dragon fruit, primarily focusing on the state of Tripura, a press release informed.

The webinar was a collaborative effort of the CIH Medziphema, which is an undertaking of the Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, and the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre.

The webinar was attended by entrepreneurs, farmers and KVK officials from Tripura and other North East states, with a total attendance of around 180 participants, the release informed.

Dr BNS Murthy, Horticulture Commissioner, GoI, in his guest remark, highlighted the importance of webinar for farmers and entrepreneurs, and encouraged the participants to take this opportunity to sincerely learn from the experts. 

Dr Naveen Patle, Deputy Commissioner, DAC & FW and Director in-charge, CIH, was the moderator of the programme, while speakers included Dr Biswajit Das, Joint Director ICAR Tripura centre; Dr Vishambhar Dayal, Scientist, ICAR Mizoram Centre; Vinika Aomi, Post Harvest Technologist, CIH, Nagaland and Dr Ramesh Mittal, Director, National Institute of Agricultural Marketing.

Dr. Biswajit Das presented the lecture on improved production technology of pineapple, Dr. Vishambhar Dayal presented on the production and post harvest aspect of dragon fruit while Vinika presented on the topic of processing and value addition of pineapple. Dr Ramesh Mittal delivered his presentation on the marketing aspect of these crops through value chain development which was followed by an interactive session, according to the release.

The training programme ended with a concluding remark by the Joint Director, ICAR Tripura Centre, in which he acknowledged the entire CIH team for the successful collaborative programme. Dr Moasosang Longkumer, AHS, CIH, delivered the vote of thanks to the speakers and participants, the release stated.
