CII Nagaland hosts webinar on ‘opportunities in direct selling’

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): “In a state like Nagaland where the industrialization is yet to gear up, direct selling can open up avenues to one’s entrepreneurial journey,” said Pukhayi, Advisor, Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Taxes, Nagaland in a webinar organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Nagaland Branch.

Speaking as guest of honour, the Advisor said the sector has also empowered women in a significant way right since its inception and has been instrumental in employment generation for many Indians who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

CII Secretariat, Nagaland Branch in a press release said that to popularise direct selling as an employment opportunity in Nagaland a webinar session on ‘opportunities in direct selling’ was organized on June 16.

Prof Bejon Misra, International Consumer Policy Expert & Honorary Professor of National Law University, Odisha laid emphasis on the need of raising consumer awareness in Nagaland. Rajat Banerji, Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Chetan Bharadwaj, General Manager, Indian Direct Selling Association threw light on various advantages and the opportunities being offered by direct selling. According to a report of the Indian Direct selling Association, during the fiscal year 2019-20, direct sellers of Nagaland most of whom are women numbering around 42,000 collectively generated businesses worth Rs 100 Crores. 

Earlier, Hokhuli Sema, Chairperson, CII Nagaland State Council & CEO Faith Hospital highlighted the various positive features of direct selling. Sema said that it offers lower start up costs, high earning potential is possible and also it gives ample flexibility to work.

“Most direct-selling programs are designed specifically to be home-based businesses and are often geared to women. The direct-selling parent company generally provides the sales and promotional materials, as well as proper training been provided for the bookkeeping, sales tracking, commission data etc,” the Chairperson shared. 

The webinar was moderated by Dr Aotoshi, Past CII Chairman & CEO, Window Media and attended by a number of participants and a fruitful interaction had followed.
