Civil body cautions of ‘banning’ NSCN-IM over torture

Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): In yet another instance of NSCN-IM cadres’ wielding high-handness against innocent public members, a mentally challenged person was tortured by the organization’s cadres on May 10 in Kiphire. Towards this effect, the Singrep Yangdong Thsingmüjang Kiphire Town has demanded immediate response from the NSCN-IM and necessary action against the erring cadres for the torture. The civil body cautioned to ban the NSCN-IM within Singrep village as well as breaking all “trust” with it if the demands are not fulfilled.

The SYTKT (Singrep Village Union Kiphire Town), while wondering ‘if the progress of the peace talks was with the handicapped person’,  informed that the person, one Lihori Sangtam, went missing from May 5 but later confirmed that he had been in the NSCN-IM’s custody and tortured. He was then released in a condition of “wheeze” the SYTKT lamented.

The SYTKT while vehemently condemning the torture of Lihori Sangtam, stated that such inhuman acts are never expected from an organization like the NSCN-IM that has been pronouncing a “mission of peace and harmony.” This incident is one of those that show immaturity and direction without norms and law which cannot be accepted by any civilized society and human in particular, the SYTKT stated through its president RK Tsipio Sangtam.

The SYTKT also queried the NSCN I-M leaders that if a mentally handicapped person cannot be spared from “punishment” what will be a “normal person” and demanded clarification from the NSCN I-M “whether the key for furtherance (of the) peace talks happened to be with the disabled, Lihori.

“This unruly character discloses the real color and mission of the commander and cadres of the NSCN (IM) Medziphema. The nature of incident itself is an insertion of disturbance in each and every mind of the Nagas” the civil body asserted.

It has demanded from the “higher authority” of the NSCN (IM) to award punishment to the erring cadres equal to that which was perpetrated on the victim. “Till the demand position is clarified/fulfilled from the NSCN (IM), the SYTKT request the Singrep Yangdong Suro Ashimükhong, the apex body of the Singrep village, to accept the following on priority from the day of issue of this decision immediate cessation of trust towards the NSCN (IM); immediate cessation against donation/taxation or any types of collection towards NSCN (IM), immediate banning of NSCN (IM) faction entering within the jurisdiction of Singrep village” it added.
