Civil Defence Training second phase commences in Mon

Mon, January 22 (MExN): The second phase of Civil Defence Wardens and Volunteers Training organized by the Department of Home Guards, Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force, Nagaland, commenced on January 22 at the Town Hall, Mon.

The training programme, funded by the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards under the Ministry of Home Affairs, will continue until January 29. 

A total of 180 volunteers from Thamnan, Jahjon, Santham, Tompang and Chingai wards of Mon town are participating.

Deputy Commissioner and Controller, Civil Defence Mon, Wennyei Konyak, in his keynote address, thanked the government and the department for organizing the training, stating that disasters could occur at any time and preparedness was essential. He highlighted various manmade and natural disasters in Nagaland and their impact on society.

He said the training was essential for safeguarding citizens during disasters and appealed to volunteers to learn and understand the training thoroughly to cope with future incidents. He encouraged participants to take pride in the opportunity to save lives and expressed optimism that the training would help volunteers protect citizens during emergencies.

Mon Town Students’ Union president Wangnyem Konyak, in his address, said that Civil Defence Wardens and Volunteers are unpaid trained members of society and encouraged participants to share the knowledge gained with their communities, relatives and friends to ensure safety.

The welcome address was delivered by Lichemse Sangtam, district commandant, Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF Mon, who urged trainees to remain attentive and regular throughout the programme. Sub-inspector Lipoksashi, in his chairman’s remarks, encouraged trainees to actively interact with instructors for better learning and understanding.
