Tuensang, August 20 (MExN): The Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), the apex tribal body of the Chang community, concluded its donation drive on August 20, aimed at supporting families affected by the recent landslides in Tuensang town.

The drive, which ran from August 9 to 20, saw contributions from various organizations, including the Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation, Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen, tribal units of Tuensang town, village councils, sector unions, and individual well-wishers.

The collected donations, comprising both materials and cash, were distributed to the presidents of the five sectors most severely impacted by the landslides. These areas have been dealing with significant damage to homes and infrastructure following prolonged and heavy rainfall since April, which has resulted in widespread displacement of residents.

The landslides have affected over 378 residential structures, with at least 25 completely destroyed and 47 severely damaged, leading to the displacement of approximately 768 individuals. The relief efforts have included the establishment of temporary shelters, food and medical aid, and trauma counselling for the displaced families.

Through a statement issued by its Media Cell, the CKS expressed gratitude to all those who participated in the donation drive, acknowledging the vital role of community support in alleviating the hardships faced by the landslide victims.
