Clarification on allegation over land dispute and summon notice

Dimapur | April 2

In connection with the March 3 incident at Vikiye Centre, Supply Colony, Dimapur over a land dispute and subsequent summon notice issued by the Model Village Yorubami Youth Association to Hokuto Zhimomi, the latter has clarified that he went to the spot as a “mediator”.

Addressing a press conference in Dimapur on Sunday, Hokuto said he went to “mediate” on the strength of being the Chairman of Sumi GBs Dimapur as requested by GB of Supply Colony. He said the plot of land in question was owned by V.K. Sema and has not encountered any dispute "since the last 50 years". “On March 3, I was informed by the concerned colony GB to intervene and mediate the trespassing on V.K Sema’s land by Pothita and 15 other persons who had come with concrete pillars to erect,” Hokuto explained.

Hokuto said he asked for land patta from Pothita who produced a duplicate patta made in 2015 under the name of Late Vamuzo. Not convinced with the duplicate land patta, Hokuto said he asked for allotment order since the allotment order is usually issued before issuing a land patta. “At that point, Pothita ridiculed and charged me saying that a GB does not know all these procedures,” Hokuto added.

Hokuto said if there was any dispute then the concerned department and the two parties should be present to solve the issue and therefore asked them to take back the pillars. “However, Pothita and his group were determined to erect the pillars and in the process, a scuffle broke out leading to shoving each other,” he clarified.

Hokuto said basing on this scuffle, the Model Village Yorubami Village Youth Association (MVYYA) has alleged that I assaulted Pothita son of Lt Vamuzo and also challenged and insulted Lt Vamuzo, which is “baseless and far from truth.”

Stating that the MVYYA had summoned him at Yourbami village on April 4, Hokuto said, “it is disheartening to say that serving summons to individuals to other’s village without knowing the ground realities and threatening of action is uncivilized.”

Hokuto also said that the MVYYA publishing his names with photographs in the media amounted to character assassination, defamatory and tarnished his image in the society.

He said complaints have been lodged with the police by both the parties and the case is pending and that the MVYYA summoning him at this point of time was uncalled for which clearly amounts to double jeopardy.

Hokuto said if at all the MVYYA wished to settle the issue outside the court, then the appropriate forum could have been the Supply Colony Council since the incident took place in its jurisdiction or even the Sumi Council Dimapur and Chakhesang Public Organization Dimapur.

Hokuto also said that he was alleged of snatching land patta from Pothita and clarified that he took the patta for the purpose of lodging a complaint and accordingly the patta was handed over to police.

Hokuto said that he does not have any enmity with Yorubami village and the incident that took place on that day was between him and Pothita on individual lines.
