Apropos News item dated 12 Sep 24 it was reported by Media Houses of Nagaland, that Nagaland Village Guards celebrated their Golden Jubilee at Noklak, on 11 Sep 24 quoting DIPR, Government of Nagaland. Whereas on 01 Mar 24, Nagaland Village Guards had celebrated their 67th Raising Day at Noklak, which was also reported in Nagaland Media on 02 Mar 24.
As per available information Village Guards were raised at Pangsha and redesignated as the Village Defence Guard on 01 Mar 57, when the area was under NEFA Administration.
In view of the above dichotomy, it is requested that a clarification may kindly be issued to remove the confusion. Nagaland Village Guards have played an important part in providing a safe environment in the villages and have also assisted the District Administration effectively. As such it is imperative that their history be recorded accurately for posterity and for information of future generations of Nagas.
