Classic Club: Kohima Bible College wins opening match

Our Correspondent Kohima | November 2   Kohima Bible College today registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Brotherhood FC in the opening match of the 24th Classic Club 2018 under the aegis of Classic Club Kohima here at Kohima Local Ground.   Tekwilo Mekrisuh opened the account for Kohima Bible College in the 8th minute while Talizu Thupzz increased the score tally in the 24th minute.   Kohima Bible College took 3-0 lead till the first half with Peteneilhou Paunuo scoring another goal for the team in the 29th minute.   Kevilezo Sachu netted the fourth goal for the team in the 41st minute.   With this, Kohima Bible College will now face Deja Vu Edition FC in their second match on November 7.   Classic Club president, K Neibou Sekhose meanwhile informed that prizes for Classic Cup 2019 will be increased to double as part of the silver jubilee of the Club.   He said the replica of the trophy will be given to all the champion teams since 1995 of the tournament and all past winners will be invited for the jubilee tournament.   He said that the champion of the 24th edition will carry a cash prize of Rs. 1.50 lakh while runner-up will receive Rs. 80,000.   There will also be individual prizes for player’s of the people choice, best goal keeper, best defence, best midfield, best forward, highest scorers and player’s of the tournament.   Announcing the year-long celebration of its silver jubilee, he said Classic Award 2018 has been conferred to Vilelie Khamo for his philanthropic contribution towards the uplift of the lesser privileged community, extended Rs. 50,000 towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and to renovate all assets created by the Club like Classic Island, Chaiigei Park, Traditional Gate at Y. Junction, Bunker’s Hill, Market shed etc.   The year-long celebration will also be marked by sponsoring five sportspersons, sponsoring five less privileged students, to strengthen the Kohima Orphanage Home Library, Christmas with Orphanage and Old Age Home, to organise workshop /seminar with NGOs in order to have a better understanding and cooperation for the welfare of the people, to undertake tour to all the 11 districts and north eastern states for propagation of the message of peace, inter-school dance competition, music concert for less privileged children, special award to three best NGOs, Classic Award 2019 and the jubilee will be culminated with the grand finale of 25th Classic Cup 2019.   Meanwhile, gracing the the inaugural function, MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo said that winning and losing is part of a game.   “But a good player is who can accept both defeat and victory with smile and grace,” he said.   In any field, he said, to become a professional or expert needs patience, discipline and hard training.   Expressing happiness that the state has produced few national and international players in the various disciplines, he said “However, we still need more players in the national and international level.”   Dr. Sazo maintained that there are some other games where Naga youth have got more potential such as- Softball, Sepaktakraw, Rifle Shooting, Archery etc.   He said one can earn livelihood and fame through sports, adding that the state government has also kept a certain percentage of job reservation for the sportspersons.   Further, he urged the participating teams to give their best, make new friends, love and respect fellow players and “Live It Up” to make this world a better place to live in.   23 teams registered for this 24th edition, which will conclude on November 19.   Entry ticket for spectators has been priced at Rs. 20.   November 3 matches Elite Brother’s vs Phezoucha YO Kijimetouma VSU vs Küluopfü FC Pochury Young Komet FC vs Naga Jaguars FC
