Clean Election Campaign: Failure Or Success

Botovi Yepthomi

After reading many articles and a few cartoons about the clean election campaign, I thought I will share my views about it too. As we all know NBCC started the CLEAN ELECTION CAMPAIGN and we have all seen banners and read articles and write-ups in the newspaper, etc. But given the time and the magnitude of the task, I didn’t expect any impact as such on the recently concluded 2013 Election. What this campaign stood against was not built in a fortnight, it is now many decades our people are used to taking money for their votes, and therefore it is going to take much more than banners and newspaper articles and a weak persuasion to change this mindset. I am one among many who commend the NBCC for taking up such a noble and daunting task. But it is going to take time and greater effort for change to take place.

The NBCC must stand more strongly against corruption and injustice and against corrupted leaders. Then I believe the next time around, whatever type of elections there may be, there will be a greater impact. I hope they will continue and let this campaign only become stronger and louder and bigger. So was the Clean Election Campaign a success or a failure? That depends on what the NBCC will do next. And may I add, if you step into the ring to fight and your opponent lands a few punches on you, doesn’t mean the fight is over but if you back out so soon, it will only be considered as an act of cowardice. The truth is people need you to stand for the truth, so fight the good fight of faith. May God help us all. God bless our Nagaland.
