Longleng, February 20 (MExN): With the call of Clean Election campaign headed by the Nagaland Baptist Churches Association, a group of women made a difference as they hit the streets barefooted for prayer walk on February 17. The event under the banner ‘Barefoot Prayer Walk on Clean Election 2018’ was put on by Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) Women Department and Longleng Town Baptist Church Women Department.
The walk started from Lempong Junction and concluded at Hukphang-Bhumnyu junction covering the whole Longleng district main street. More than six hundred women folk in traditional attire walked the Longleng District streets in prayer and songs. Prayer was conducted at four strategic points.
Nyiamla, APW LTBC lead the thanksgiving prayer in the starting point. Thanksgiving was offered to God for blessing Longleng District to Phom People, for the peaceful situation till now with no record of election related violence and altercations, and for blessing the day of prayer walk.
Ponglen, Member LTBC led the gathered women members and surrounded citizens into confession and repentance. The citizen confessed the sin of corruption, money power and manipulation, sin against the Great Jehovah God through our foolish and selfish act, unrepentant heart.
Tialemba Phom ES, PBCA, led the prayer by calling upon the citizens to abstain from selling votes, drinking alcohol, using guns-muscles and using drugs. He shared that one cannot come to a power over a citizens death body. Thus, violence, bloodshed and evil intention should be shun and a Christ oriented clean election should be practiced. The pledge to follow Jesus Christ Alone as was affirmed at NBCC Triennial Convention 2018 at ABAM was affirmed with a Prayer and slogans for Peace and Clean Election was chanted.
Angbhen, WS PBCA took over the last prayer phase and she encouraged the citizens tearfully to value life given by God. She stated that ‘there is life beyond election’ and that no individual, family or society can exist without God’s blessing. She also voiced that people do not have the strength to take God’s wrath and that we cannot bear His anger.
She reminded the citizens that Phom land is called the ‘Land of Peace’ and that we are given the purpose to preserve the God given peace through all circumstances. Evil and wrong practices such as selling of vote, clashes and violence, use of substances abuse and such will bring great harm upon us. Electing the right leader was emphasized and prayed for through the reading of Proverbs 29:2.
Citizens were called to observe God oriented Election and abstain from bloodshed, violence, vote sell and use of liquor and drugs.
PBCA Women Department and LTBCWD in a press release extends gratitude to the Women Citizens of the district, District Administration, the SP Office, Media, 11 Ward Presidents, Phomla Hoichem and all the well wishers for making this prayer walk a beautiful testimony through necessary assistance, guidance and solidarity.
