USBLA conducts Clean Election seminar at Kiphire

The United Sangtam Baptist Lithro Ashimukhong (USBLA) conducted a Clean Election seminar at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire which was attended by representatives from United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP), United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), and Akedah Sangtamlaru Thsingmujang (AST), church leaders, village elders and USBLA staffs.
Exhorting the gathering, USLP Vice President K. Tsilise said that it is with the USBLA and the NBCC in ‘Clean Election’ campaign and assured all possible support for the success of the campaign. He however said, “no matter how good the theory may be, it is up to individual to make choice whether to choose the right or wrong.” He asked the leaders present to maintain integrity so that the public will follow the good path of the leaders and added, “If leaders live a righteous and truthful life, society will automatically be put right.”
The chairman of USBYE board, Joseph who also spoke on the occasion said, “During election when we take money to vote or sell our vote, after election we have no right to question the elected members even if they do not develop our town and district.” He also said, as Christians it is the duty of all to maintain the Christian principal and added, “If you sell your vote you are committing sin because your vote is your life.”
NBCC Clean Election Core Member, Alison who gave a detail talk on Clean Election shared on the ‘do and don’t’ of Clean Election. He stressed on the role and responsibility of the church, civil societies, leaders and elders, students and the electorates as to how one should exercise ones franchise as per election code of conduct.
He asked the leaders and the church members present to be truthful and added, “it is a blessing to live a righteous life and upholding clean election is one of them.”
The meeting also resolved to uphold the 16 point resolution of the NBCC ‘Clean Election’; not to use money during election and the leaders and the elders will educate the citizens on this; not to use liquor or arms during election.
The local churches leaders were entrusted to educate the believers on Clean Election in respective churches and the members present took a pledge to exercise one’s franchise with integrity so that the system is make straight.
