Clean up order for abandoned cables

Dimapur, June 27 (MExN): The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has directed all service providers and concerned stakeholders to remove all unused and abandoned overhead and underground cable wires in the town by July 31.

In a public notice, the EDTC said the directive aims to enhance public safety, improve urban aesthetics, and eliminate hazards caused by unattended cables that currently obstruct footpaths, roadways, and public spaces. “These pose serious risks to pedestrians, vehicles, and utility maintenance teams,” the statement noted.

The council has further mandated that any new cable installations—whether overhead or underground—will henceforth require prior written approval from the EDTC. It also warned that unauthorized drain construction from the main road will be treated as a violation.

Failure to comply with the directives will result in penalties, removal of the infrastructure at the defaulter's expense, and possible legal action under relevant municipal laws, the notification added.

The EDTC appealed to all citizens and stakeholders to cooperate in the interest of public safety, environmental management, and the preservation of town infrastructure.
