Dimapur, February 16 (MExN): The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has directed all shopkeepers, business establishments, commercial institutions and vendors operating within its jurisdiction to maintain proper cleanliness of their shops and surrounding areas at all times.
In a public notice, the Council instructed all shop and business owners to keep their premises neat and hygienic, ensure proper disposal of waste in designated dustbins and refrain from dumping garbage on roads, drains or other public places.
The EDTC further directed that cleanliness must be maintained in front of shops, including footpaths and adjoining areas.
Stating that maintaining cleanliness is not only a civic duty but also a shared responsibility, the Council said a clean environment reflects the discipline and unity of the community and helps keep the town clean, healthy and presentable.
The Council informed that surprise inspections will be conducted and any shop or business establishment found violating cleanliness norms will be strictly penalised.
The EDTC also cautioned the general public that any individual or group found damaging road dividers within its jurisdiction will be held fully responsible for repairing and restoring the damaged property at their own cost.
It warned that those involved in such acts, including persons attempting to flee after causing damage, will be dealt with strictly and necessary action will be initiated against the defaulters.
