Congress Legislature Party has today reiterated its demand for imposition of Governor’s rule in Nagaland with immediate effect. The 12 Congress legislators, who met the state Governor, K Sankaranarayanan, this evening at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum said that time and again the Congress party has brought to the notice of the Governor on the deteriorating law and order situation under the DAN government and the lives of the people are not safe as the situation goes out of hand in the name of political expediency.

The stark reality is the ambush of Goa Governor, Dr SC Jamir and his lady wife on Saturday last. This ambush directly targets a person who is the head of the state and directed against the constitution itself, the memo stated. The memo also alleged that inspite of the seriousness of the situation, the DAN government had completely ignored the incident and had not even called the cabinet to review the situation. Such callous handling of the matter is manifest of their inability to govern, the CLP memo also said.

“Due to weak administration of the DAN government and its appeasement policies, there is no semblance of governance in the state whereby people are taking the law into their own hands with impunity disregarding the constitutional authority of the country”, the memo said. It demanded that the Governor exercise his powers under Article 371 A (B) of the Constitution of India to provide security to the people and their property  and to protect the Constitution of India.

Later speaking to some press men, I Imkong, CLP leader, said that the Governor was 'quite receptive'. Asked whether the time is proper to demand PR at this moment as the countdown to the general election is barely three months away, Imkong, said that the Congress wants election to be held under proper security. When innocent people have become the target of anti-social elements and extortions are on randomly, the law and order situation in the state cannot be termed congenial, Imkong added.
