CLP scanner on cash haul

Dimapur, June 19 (MExN): An unconvinced Nagaland Congress today sought answers from the department of DRDA of Mon district on a number of matters related to the June 15 cash haul of more than Rs. 1 Crore at Bokajan.

The Congress Legislature Party met in an emergency sitting on June 19 and deliberated on “various issues confronting the state of Nagaland and the indifference and continuous failure of the DAN government in resolving them.”

The CLP took serious view of the June 15 cash-haul. A statement from the CLP said that the vehicle in which the Accounts Officer under Mon DRDA and one “Mrs. Fashion” wife of the Project Director of Mon DRDA were traveling were checked by the Bokajan Police at the police check gate. The police found in bundles of different currency denominations amounting to Rs.1, 11, 15,530.

They were taken into police custody and the money was seized. “But on receiving a Fax letter from Project Director of Mon DRDA informing that the money was a payment for IAY Scheme to M/s KS Enterprise, Dimapur, the amount was released,” the CLP said in a note today.

The Congress posed a number of queries for the department to clarify. The party sought to know why the money was carried in cash and not in cheque or draft or other means of safe transfer; why such a huge amount was carried in cash without any supporting official documents and why wasn’t a security escort detailed by the department as the cash traveled inter-state and long distance; why couldn’t the purported contractor the draw money from Mon and why the department took the trouble to deliver the money to the contract’s doorsteps.

“Does the department also provide ‘Home Delivery’? Whether the money drawn was actually for IAY as stated to the Assam Police Bokajan? What was the content of the Fax message sent by Project Director of DRDA Mon sent to Bokajan Police Station? Whether the money was actually paid to the contractor and is the department in a position to produce work orders/supply orders? Why is there pressure mounting from various quarters on the persons who have file the FIR in Police station to withdraw?”

The CLP has demanded that the department and the PD of Mon DRDA come out clean on all accounts and clear doubts in the minds of the Naga public. “Until there is satisfactory explanation and clarification, the CLP will continue to per sue on this matter until a sense of justice prevails before the people.,” the CLP assured.

The CLP said the suspicious sequence of events is just the tip of the iceberg and goes to show the level of corruption and irregularities the DAN government is indulging in. “The incident throws a lot of questions to be answered by the department under the DAN Government and the Naga public has every right to know where and in what manner their development money is siphoned and misused,” the Congress said.
