CM Biren Singh on issues in Manipur

Newmai News Network Imphal | July 23   Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today informed the State Legislative Assembly that the recent eviction drive was taken up in the larger interest of the future of the State. He appealed to the people affected by the recent eviction drive not to hold any grudges against the Government stating that the Government also feels the pain of the families but the action was needed for the future generation.   Biren also informed the house that the government will consider extending all possible help to the affected families during the eviction drive at Nongmaiching Reserve Forest and those affected by dredging of Nambul and Imphal River. The Government will think about providing the assistance taking reference from the previous Government’s action on such similar cases on humanitarian ground. He was replying to starred question raised by Md. Abdul Nasir, MLA Lilong AC, regarding whether the Government is planning to compensate the affected families.   Forest and Environment Minister, Th. Shyamkumar said the eviction of unauthorized/illegal encroachers in the Reserve Forest areas of Manipur is a continuous process which has to be carried out after fulfilling due process of law and rules under Indian (Forest) Act 1927; the Manipur (Forest) Rules, 1971 and also the settlement of rights under Forest Rights Act (FRA).   Works Minister Th. Biswajit Singh said the work programme for PWD for the year 2018-19 will be ready by July. There has been delay in the process as the department is working hard to include those affected by the recent flood in the State. Replying to starred questioned raised by DD Thaisii, MLA Karong AC, Works Minister said according to need basis road construction/repairing work will be taken up at district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters and others.   Y. Joykumar Singh, Deputy Chief Minister (in-charge of Finance) laid the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Economic and Revenue Sectors for the year ended March 31, 2017, report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Social and General Sectors for the year ended March 31, 2017, and report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on State Finances for the year ended March 31, 2017.
