Dimapur, March 15 (MExN): The Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change had an interactive meeting with the senior officers and staffs of the department on March 15 in the Conference Hall of the Office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest. The Minister, during the visit said that the prime objective of a government servant should be to serve the needy people of the State.
The Minister called upon the Department to be more proactive while addressing the new challenges faced by the State in terms of maintaining healthy forest cover and addressing the ecological sustainability. Highlighting the path of development that the State would adopt in near future, he asked the department to rise to the occasion to ensure the environmental safety.
Expressing his concerns over climate change parameters, the Minister discussed with the officials of the department about immediate effect of the Climate Change in the State and ways and means being adopted by the State machinery to address them. Referring to the interpretations of the State of Forest Report, 2017 published by the Government of India recently, he directed the officials to identify and address the factors resulting in degradation of forests in the state.
A press release stated here that earlier I. Panger Jamir, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force briefed about the structure and functioning of the Department. He also appraised the Minister about the major works and activities being undertaken by the department. Senior officers of the department shared the details of the activities being handled by each one of them.
