Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today handed over appointment orders to the 587 successful candidates of Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) Combined Staff Recruitment Examination 2022.

With this, the 587 candidates will now serve in 45 state government departments across the state. 

Addressing the felicitation programme of the successful NSSB candidates and distribution of appointment orders at Capital Cultural Hall Kohima on August 30, Rio said that despite limited manpower, NSSB took up the assignment immediately and expeditiously, and thereby, 630 Group-C vacant posts under various State government departments were advertised on September 9, 2022, registering the largest ever written examination in the state with 50,583 candidates, which was successfully conducted in 111 exam centres under 13 district headquarters.

Thereafter, having completed computer proficiency test and other skill tests; the final results were declared on July 9, 2023 for appointment of 587 staff to Group-C posts under 45 state departments, Rio said.

He said that the successful and flawless conduct of the entire cycle of the recently concluded examination by NSSB deserve appreciation.

“Its glorious achievement has further strengthened the faith of everyone, especially our youth in the transparent system and their belief in meritocracy, he added.

‘Say bye bye to backdoor appointment’
Rio said that with the young and talented youth, “we are going to say “bye bye to backdoor appointment and the so- called political appointment.”

“In this, I think, not only the exam, the senior officers and government servants, the politicians and also the public, we all have to play our part,” Rio said.

We were striving for a very long time in the interest of meritocracy and transparency, for working out and establishing a well-defined and structured mechanism for recruitment to Group-C posts in the state government, Rio said adding that the Group- C posts taken together, constitute about 70% of all the posts under the state government, “and hence for our educated youth aspiring for a government job held great significance.”

Our student bodies and several other stakeholders also, were urging and were keen for a centralized system which could provide our educated youth across the state a fair opportunity to apply, compete, and let their merit alone be the factor for their entry into Government service, Rio said.

Rio said that the government was aware of the long-felt need for such a system in the interest of “our educated youth”, took the first step towards it, when the State Cabinet in October 2019, set up the drafting committee for coming up with regulations for the NSSB taking into account the policy necessity as well as heeding to the demand made by various civil and student bodies over the years.

The Committee after due consultation with the stake holding departments as well as the systems prevailing in other States, submitted its report to the Cabinet which readily approved the Regulations, which were then notified, and with the appointment of the Chairman on 14th February, 2022, the Board was deemed to have become functional, he said.

‘NSSB moving ahead towards next cycle of examination’
“I am happy to note that NSSB is now moving ahead towards the next cycle of examination with the recent announcement of Clerical & Allied Services Exams (CASE) 2023 for 188 posts,” Rio said adding that the recruitment process for Combined Technical Services Exams and Combined Education Services Exams will also be advertised in due course of time.

Stating that 49% of the successful candidates belong to the age group from 21-25 years, Rio said “I am sure, state government has got hold of a very young pool of talents who shall be an asset for the government, which will help bring about vital changes at the cutting-edge level in terms of digitalization of office management, and also harness the benefits of e-governance down to the grassroots level.”

The Chief Minister was hopeful that the successful candidates will serve the state with dedication, devotion, and fairness.
Minister for tourism & higher education Temjen Imna Along, Chief Secretary J. Alam and NSSB chairperson Sedevikho Khro also spoke at the programme.
