Call for best practice of the pensioners and their benefits

Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio today handed over Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) to retired police personnel and Group Term Life Insurance to nominees of deceased police personnel under Police Salary Package.

This was done during the inauguration of Nagaland Police Officer's Mess at New Reserve Phesama, Kohima.

Stating that there are a lot of pending pension cases wherein the widows or the pensioner’s family use to face a lot of problem, he said “We will ensure that we use the best practice of the pensioners and their benefits. It should be  flawless.”

In this, he said, “We need cooperation of our bankers and AG Nagaland.”

Dr Rio said that the state government has taken decision to disburse the salary of the government employees through the bank and also even the student scholarships, thereby creating a strong banking culture among citizens

The Chief Minister urged upon the police officers to continue their journey of service with renewed vigour, discipline and determination.

“May your service bring greater pride, honour and laurels to our state,” Dr Rio said adding “Together, let us move forward with unity, integrity and unwavering dedication.”

SBI’s Corporate Salary Package

Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma said that Accountant General office agreed to process the pension and gratuity documents during 5-6 months period.

Stating that almost 500 cases pending with Nagaland Police and AG office, he said “In the last 6 months, we have been able to achieve 91% settlement of pension cases. Almost 95% cases of superannuating employees till November 2025 have been settled.”

“We have been able to settle about 8 cases for employees retiring in December 2025 also, he said.

Stating that Nagaland Police have tied up with State Bank of India for Corporate Salary Package, he said that about 23,00 salary accounts were converted into this package in a 2 month period.

The State Bank of India agreed to give a package where, besides other benefits, the SBI Group Insurance Package makes every police personnel dying in harness to be eligible for Rs 10 lakh payment, he said.

Almost 50 personnel have passed away and we have processed 30 cases till now. About 10 cases have been settled, he said.

Such measures have brought about a much needed relief to pensioners and the families of personnel dying in harness, he said.

Settlement of pension cases increase to over 400 cases per month

Varun Ahluwalia, Accountant General Nagaland said that the handing over of PPOs to the retiring officers symbolises the state’s recognition of their dedication, courage and long years of service.

Highlighting Digital Integration of Pension and GPF workflows in the state, he informed that Nagaland is progressing towards a unified, end-to-end digital entitlement ecosystem.

This includes electronic movement of cases with real-time traceability, secure, on-demand access to digitally authorised PPOs and GPOs, and audit-ready documentation that strengthens accountability and governance integrity.

He said that AG Nagaland is deploying reforms that place the citizen at the centre of the system, a robust SMS alert architecture, DigiLocker integration for GPF Annual Statements and digitally authenticated, paperless documents, enhancing accessibility and reducing transaction friction.

On introduction of AIPARAS, the AI-enabled pension authorisation and return case assessment system, he said “With AIPARAS, AG Nagaland will not merely be improving its processes. It is building a next-generation, AI-native entitlement ecosystem, placing the state at the frontier of digital-era public administration and benefits governance.

Stating that AG Nagaland was witnessing measurable improvements in the area of long-term reforms, he said that monthly settlement of pension cases has increased from around 300 in August 2025 to over 400 cases per month consistently.

“Our target is clear to ensure that AG Nagaland becomes and remains fully current in every pension case, every month, for every retiring employee, ensuring that authorisation is completed on or before the date of retirement for every eligible employee,” Ahluwalia said.

As we honour today’s retiring officers, we reaffirm a deeper institutional commitment to create a benefits ecosystem that is responsive, future-proof, and truly worthy of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to public service, he said.

Pension is not merely a financial transaction—it is the State’s final expression of gratitude, respect and institutional accountability, he said adding “Our mission is to ensure that every government servant in Nagaland retires with clarity, certainty and complete confidence in the systems that safeguard their lifelong service.”
