Dimapur, June 5 (DIPR): The Global Open University extension campus on Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition was inaugurated today at Youth Hostel Building, Dimapur by the Chief Minister Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio.
In his inaugural speech, Rio said that today we are entering another chapter in the developmental process of the state through the inauguration of the Dimapur campus of the Global Open University. After inauguration of the main campus at Wokha a week back, this quick succession of event shows that the new University is seriously in the business of giving a good account of themselves from the very first year, he asserted. He was also happy to learn that the university will be opening another campus at Kohima within this academic year itself and that ultimately it intends to open its campuses in all 11 district Headquarters in Nagaland.
Rio also said that NU will also start a new engineering faculty from the current year and a mini tool centre was made available for this purpose. Further the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysis of India, University of Nagaland, will also start offering various short oriented degree and diploma courses from this academic session, he disclosed.
Speaking on the education front, Rio said that education is the most basic requirement for human resource development, although Nagaland has already achieved a reasonably high rate of literacy much above the national level. He said that there are still critical gaps in our education system, mostly due to syllabus not being adequately updated to suit the ever changing job requirement. “This is one of the main reasons why we welcome the establishment of this Global Open University of Nagaland,” he added. Rio felt that with the various job oriented and practical courses offered by the new University it is expected that students who graduate from this University would be much better equipped for the job market in Nagaland and elsewhere and that they would feel more confident and empowered.
The Chief Guest expressed hope that the University authorities would try to see that the students who pass out after completion of their degree courses get suitable and gainful jobs through campus placement etc. so that they do not join the overcrowded club of unemployed educated youth in the state.
Pro-Chancellor, Global Open University, Dr PR Trivedi presented the Vision and Action Plan of Global Open University. The Chief Minister was accompanied by a host of Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and high ranking government officials.
