The CME (continuing medical education) cum annual meet of Kohima Obstetrics & Gynecological Society of Nagaland (KOGSON) was held here at Nikos Hospital & Research Centre (NHRC), on Saturday with renowned gynecologists from other states and hospitals attending the meet as guest speakers.
The CME also included three live laparoscopic surgeries performed by two senior gynecologists from Nagaland – Dr. K Keditsu, MD of Putuonuo Nursing Home, Kohima, and Dr. Victo A Wotsa, MD, NHRC. The surgeries were captured and shown on big TV screens to other doctors and guest speakers.
Moderators of the live laparoscopic workshop included Dr. Kevingulie Khro, additional director, H&FW Nagaland and Prof. L Ranjit Singh, HoD, Obs & Gynae, RIMS Imphal.
Speakers and their topics in CME session-1 were Dr. P Ravi Shankar, senior consultant, Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai (‘Surgery in carcinoma ovary’); Prof. L Ranjit Singh (‘Toxemia in pregnancy’); Dr. Victo A Wotsa (‘Ergonomics & port placement’), and Dr. A Santa Singh, HoD, Obs & Gynae, NEIGRIHMS Shillong (‘Ulipristal accelate for the management of fibroids’).
Dr. NL Changkija, retd. Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, and Dr. Atoshe Sema, additional project director (MHP), were the moderators of the first session.
Speakers in the second CME session included Dr. Apeli Sukhalu (‘Diagnostic hysterolaparoscopy in infertility and its outcome’); Dr. Thejavinuo Keditsu (‘Coloscopy and leep’), and Dr, Kevi Linyu (‘Radical hysterectomy’). Dr. T Belho and Dr. A Santa Singh moderated the second session.
Senior gynecologists from Nagaland, Dr. Sukhato A Wotsa and Dr. SM Agarwal, also attended the meet.
It may be mentioned Nikos Hospital is the first hospital in Nagaland and the third in the North East Region to get NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) accreditation and also the first hospital in the Region to open a laparoscopic training centre.
The laparoscopic training centre recognized by Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society of India (FOGSI) was formally inaugurated in May last year by Nagaland minister for H&FW, P Longon.
