Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

Making a statement here today, he lauded all the members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, people of Nagaland and the whole country, who responded to his appeal and came forward to contribute towards CMRF.

Rio said he was overwhelmed by the response of the people from all walks of life who have made valuable contributions and stand in solidarity with the State of Nagaland, struggling to cope with the recent unprecedented rains causing numerous landslides and floods; damages to roads, properties and crops; loss of precious lives; and extreme hardship to people.

He particularly commended Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who travelled to Dimapur and handed over a cheque for Rs 1.25 Cr for CMRF. He also expressed his gratitude to M/s AirPay, which set up the online portal for contributions to the fund through various online payment methods, without charging any fees. A total amount of Rs 48.17 Lakh was received through such platforms.

A total of Rs 53.41 lakh from nearly 34,803 people were also collected through a gateway set up by PayTM for the relief fund. Rio also appreciated PayTm for matching this amount by making an equal contribution from its side.

The CMRF also received almost Rs. 108.11 lakh directly to the bank account. The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) MLAs contributed one month’s salary, and also the party functionaries appointed in various positions, besides contributions from the party rank and file of their Alliance partners, Rio said. He also lauded the Government employees, various organisations, associations, corporate entities and all other donors who have contributed in cash and kind an amount of Rs 79.52 lakh.

Committee for ‘judicious use of funds’

The government, the Chief Minister further informed, have decided to set up a committee under Additional Chief Secretary & Finance Commissioner for judicious use of funds received.

A Mass Social Work for the restoration of the damaged infrastructures and for improving drainage, culverts and roads will also be initiated from September 29 to October 2 in all districts and ADC Headquarters as a part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Chief Minister also expressed hope that the elected members, both ruling and opposition members come together and help build Nagaland.
