Cites government inaction on equitable District CCI nomination
DIMAPUR, APRIL 22 (MExN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) have declared an indefinite voluntary shutdown of business establishments across the state starting April 24.
The move comes in response to what the confederation described as continued inaction by the State Government over demands for “equitable justice in the nomination of District CCI representatives to the District Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and expressing disappointment over the step motherly treatment.”
In a statement, the CNCCI said the decision follows multiple attempts to seek redressal from the government, including a formal appeal to the Chief Minister and warning of a democratic protest if justice was not delivered by April 20. “The CNCCI has exhausted all possible means… Unfortunately, the State Government has not responded,” the statement noted.
In light of this, and in accordance with the demand of the 9 aggrieved District CCIS, the CNCCI has announced the "Democratic Indefinite Voluntary Business Shutter Down" starting from April 24.
The shutdown will also include participation from banking institutions. However, essential services such as medical facilities, fuel stations and taxi services will be exempted in the initial phase. Government offices, schools and general vehicular movement are expected to remain unaffected.
The CNCCI underscored that the protest is voluntary and appealed to all participating districts to ensure it remains peaceful and incident-free. “We request all District Chambers to ensure the protest remains peaceful, without any untoward incidents,” it stated.
Further decisions regarding the second phase of the protest will be taken during an Executive Council meeting scheduled for April 25, which will be attended by all presidents of the district CCIs. The CNCCI has urged the public and all stakeholders to cooperate and support the movement.
