CNCCI demands reopening of markets in Dimapur

Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI) on Tuesday voiced support for reopening of New Market, Hazi Park and Hongkong Market in Dimapur.

The markets have been shut for more than 5 months now, the CNCCI stated in its press release. In this regard, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) had apprised the State Government to open those markets.

However the State Government is yet to respond to the appeal, it added.

“Thousands of business establishments in these markets are on the verge of collapse as no business can survive months of continuous closure,” the CNCCI reasoned.

Extending full support to the DCCI, the CNCCI demanded that the state government should immediately allow these markets to start functioning by empowering the Dimapur District Task Force to work out modalities to open those markets as per SOPs issued by the State Government.

The CNCCI further appealed to the government to give a “more human touch in its policies and approach as the COVID-19 pandemic has become a humanitarian crisis.”

The Confederation further reminded the government on its appeal letter written on April 24 to the Chief Minister requesting for shop rent exemption.

In this connection, the CNCCI demanded that all shops and business establishments in government owned properties including all other government funded agencies properties, such as the marketing complex under various towns and cities be exempted from paying rent for minimum period of 3 months.

The CNCCI expressed hope that the State Government would  take immediate action on the “genuine appeal made by the business community.”
