DIMAPUR, JULY 31 (MExN): The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) has alleged that on July 25 at the heart of Leingangching village, Chandel district, troop of ‘E’ Company belonging to 21 Assam Rifles (9 Sector) opened fire on cadres of the NSCN(IM). The cadres of NSCN(IM) identified themselves and shouted “cease-fire” withdrawing from the spot out of fear of possibility of the villagers’ casualties, it was stated.
A joint release issued by R L Angdang Pakan, President, Naga Students’ Union, Chandel, and N G Gilbert, President, CNPO, alleged that the Post Commander himself after 10 minutes of exchange of fire, “mercilessly shot dead an innocent student by the name of Sn. Premson Lamkang s/o (L) Sn. Bungshot at very close range without remorse and also forced the village elders to sign for his defence.”
The CNPO and the NSUC in their release expressed that they would not tolerate such “beastly acts” and condemned the atrocities committed by the Assam Rifles “though they are trained well disciplined to defend the largest democratic country.”
They questioned “if the Assam Rifles could carry out the on going ‘peace process’ which is held between the government of India and the NSCN(IM) by attacking the cadres of the latter and killing innocent civilians, let them continue as it was done at Leingangching village and others. We believe… ‘Know the truth and the truth will set you free’.”
The organizations strongly appealed to all the authorities concern to move in time for necessary action. If not, the said two apex organization warned they would proceed for further ‘action’.
