Calls for immediate decentralization of administrative and financial powers
Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): The Central Nagaland Students' Association (CNSA) on May 26 urged the state government to divide development and state budget equally among all the districts in Nagaland. It also demanded a mini secretariat for all district headquarters and called for immediate decentralization of administrative and financial powers.
While stating that the Nagas have been grateful to the people of Kohima for generously donating the land for the State Capital, it pointed out that the Nagas have also been “tolerant of the excesses committed by few unscrupulous individuals and groups.”
Stating that Dimapur and Kohima have better infrastructure and facilities, the CNSA said that they should not object to the use of those facilities “for our own brothers and sisters.”
“Everyone should understand that facilities and benefits come with responsibilities,” the CNSA stated, adding that in such trying times, opposing the use of common infrastructure is questionable. “Any infrastructure built by the State Government cannot be hijacked by any individual or groups,” it asserted.
CNSA, the apex body of three students organizations - Ao, Sümi and Lotha, said that it strongly believes in humanity and sharing of resources and responsibilities.
“We strongly urge the Government to equally divide the developments and share the State budget equally to all districts,” it stated.
Alleging that “having a capital and investing everything in a single basket is providing to be detrimental for a just society,” the CNSA urged all right thinking individuals and leaders to support their move, which it said, was for the safety and security of all Naga citizens as equal members of the Naga family.
The CNSA in its press release, made an open appeal to all the citizens of Nagaland and the state government to address their demand.
