DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 22 (MExN): In the aftermath of the September 21 incident, wherein a Naga family was assaulted in Chumukedima, the Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) today questioned the Nagaland State Government on steps that it has taken till date on the issue of illegal immigration in the state
“In case of things going out of hand the state government will be held accountable for its apathy. This illegal immigrant issue is the greatest danger awaiting the Nagas and our coming generations and yet our state government still looks the other way,” the CNTC stated in a press note.
“Quick-fix solutions is not the answer but a long permanent measures be implemented at the earliest,” it proposed. The CNTC demanded that Inner Line Permit (ILP) be properly implemented in all the districts and proper mechanism be installed to monitor it.
“The Nagas cannot afford to remain passive over this issue any longer,” it stated, while appealing for tribe hohos to come together on this issue. “The patience of the people seems to be running out and if the government fails to address this issue at the earliest they will have to bear the responsibility of any eventuality,” the CNTC cautioned.
It meanwhile also expressed concern on the “random issue of driving licenses, trade licenses, Aadhar cards, and vehicle permits, residential certificates by respective bodies to outsiders.”
The CNTC further condemned that move by “some Naga Political Groups” of “recruiting” illegal immigrants into their fold. “It has defiled the very essence and the spirit of the Naga movement,” it rued.
“Though the central government has directed all states to deport illegal immigrants from their respective states and a red alert sounded over the Rohingya immigrants in the country,” the CNTC lamented that the Nagaland Government is “yet to take any preventive measures on its part to spread awareness.”
Move ILP check point to New Field and Dillai gate, says WSH
The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) today issued an ultimatum to the Nagaland State Government to establish Inner Line Permit (ILP) check gates at New Field and Dillai check gate within one month. The WSH demanded this as opposed to the present system where ILP checking is done only at the Chumukedima.
A press note from the WSH cautioned that if the government fails to do this, the Hoho would takie it as “approval by the government empowering the NGOs and Public to take an appropriate step.” “Hence, WSH will direct Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) to enforce ILP within its jurisdiction and if any unwarranted situation arises during the implementation the Government of Nagaland will be held solely responsible,” it warned.
This came as the WSH condemned the September 21 assault incident in Chumukedima. It demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators and “maximum punishment as permissible by law.” It meanwhile expressed support to the Chumukedima Youth Organisation (CYO) and the law enforcing agencies that it will support any step taken by them.
The WSH pointed to the issue of illegal immigration in the state, and questioned the state government’s “deafening silence.” “Further, it is unfortunate that while the whole world, India and Myanmar are burning with the issue of Rohingyas, the Government of Nagaland is still silent with no policy decision or direction ignoring the fact that Nagaland is under direct threat of a possible overwhelming influx of Rohingyas,” it added.
