CNTC welcomes cabinet decision

Dimapur, April 28 (MExN): The Central Nagaland Tribes Council has lauded the April 25 State Cabinet’s decision revoking the recognition of the Rongmei tribe a 'prudent and judicious action'.

“An issue which has created a lot of uproar in the state by the Nagas of Nagaland has now been finally understood by the state cabinet on the future ramifications and consequences of granting indigenous tribe status from other states,” Media Cell CNTC said in a press note.

However, the CNTC maintained that 1313 persons recognised by the government is only an “administrative survey report.”

“Those antecedents must be proved warily with the right standard procedures applied in order to be awarded the indigenous status so that the decision taken will benefit the genuine indigenous inhabitants,” it said.

Lauding the Chief Minister for the present action, the CNTC expressed hope he would further work on the “other contentious issues of Nagas of Nagaland without any fear or favour.”
