Coal and Mining Unions of Mangkolemba, Tzurangkong and Changki called on Minister of Soil &Water Conservation, Geology & Mining, V. Kashiho Sangtam on May 2 at Longtho Compound.

The three unions in their representation to the Minister urged upon him for establishing regional office at Mangkolemba Town. The representation pointed out that, “with no proper office of Geology & Mining in the area, miners were facing some hurdles.”   The Minister, after giving a patient hearing assured the three Coal and Mining Unions that he will look into the issues at the earliest.

Further discussing about the expansion of coal mining in the state, Kashiho said that “Coal mining is important for the state and region but it is also important that a balance is maintained considering the fragile environment.” The Minister further added that “coal mining not only helps provide energy, but it also creates long-term jobs that benefit our economy and communities.”

Kashiho also urged the unions to come up with innovative suggestions and ideas for the overall interest of the department.
