Coffee cultivation gaining momentum in Nagaland

The prospect of coffee cultivation is gaining momentum in Nagaland with the sincere intervention of Coffee Board of India and department of land resources, Nagaland.  

The department of land resources is the nodal department of coffee plantation in Nagaland. Till date, 7, 60,000 coffee saplings have been planted in the different parts of the state.  

The department is targeting to cover another seven lakh plantation of coffee saplings, said Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha, District Project Officer, department of land resources, Kohima.  

He said that formation of coffee growers association is on the card in Nagaland for better coordination amongst the growers.  

Hoto Yeptho, director Land Resources Nagaland today released audio visual aid on package and practices of coffee cultivation in Nagaland during a training programme on coffee plantation here at Indira Gandhi Stadium.  

Stating that market linkages have now been put into place, Yeptho said “Your coffee will be taken to the world.”  

He told the coffee growers that the produces from Nagaland will be transacted on the rate of London and New York stock exchange.  

The director asked the coffee growers to be dedicated, saying that how much effort put by the department would land in vain unless the coffee growers work hard. “Let us all join together, move together, grow together and improve our economy,” said Yeptho.  

He also informed that the department would only provide saplings and no subsidy will be provided.  

Dr. C.G. Anand, joint director (R), CCRI, Balehonnur, Coffee Board of India told the coffee growers that dedication, continuous effort and day today attention with coffer plant is require to shine in coffee venture.  

“I am sure coffee in Nagaland will be one of the best quality,” he said and secure one of the world unique coffee. Marketing is not the problem; he said and asked the coffee growers to actively involve and get maximum benefit, maintaining that coffee would flourish in Nagaland.  

Dr. V. R. Gudde Gowda, joint director (E), Guwahati, Coffee Board of India also spoke at the training. Earlier, the function was chaired by Agnes Phewhuo, assistant inspector, department of land resources Kohima.
