Students of DM College of Arts on Tuesday threatened to launch agitation if normal class affected by cease work strike of the government college teachers, is not resumed from November 29.

Students of government colleges in Manipur are affected by the teachers agitation since November 20 after the teachers resumed cease work strike against the government’s failure to implement 7th UGC pay and regulations, 2018 for the teachers.

The teachers launched the strike under the aegis of Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association (FEGOCTA).

Not happy that the classes are affected by the teachers' agitation, PG students of DM College of Arts on Tuesday threatened that they will be compelled to launch agitation if the state government fails to address their grievances of non-conducting the class by November 29.

Addressing a press conference, general secretary of DM College of Arts PG Students’ Association, L Nonglemba Meitei said a decision to launch the agitation by the students was taken by meeting of the association held on Tuesday.

He demanded that the concerned authority of the state government and striking teachers should resolve the disagreement between them on or before November 28 so as to ensure resumption of normal classes from the next day.

L Nonglemba Meitei then alleged that the academic atmosphere of the students was greatly disturbed by the ongoing cease work strike of the teachers.

On the other hand, expressing disappointment over state government’s failure to give a positive response to their demands, FEGOCTA had, on Monday, threatened to boycott the college/graduation semester examination, which will be conducted by Manipur University from November 28.

While threatening to boycott the exam, FEGOCTA general secretary, Dr N Somorendro reiterated that although the Federation and college lecturers do not want to create any disturbance with regard to the examination, FEGOCTA was compelled to take "this stand as the state government has continuously ignored the federation".
