Colleges in Dimapur explores on ‘Enhancing Competencies’
Participants during the Faculty Development Programme at Conference Room, C-Edge College on January 31.
Dimapur, January 31 (MExN): Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of C-Edge College, Dimapur organised the Faculty Development Programme on January 31 at its Conference Room which was attended by all its teaching faculty members and also from other colleges.
The one-day programme held on the theme “Enhancing Competencies” was sponsored by Kiremwati Chair. The FDP was held with two technical session namely professional ethics and interactive session on language usage.
The programme started with an invocation by Somirin, Chaplain and welcome address by the Principal of the college, Dr Chubatola Aier.
The first technical session was chaired by Viseno Koutsu, HoD of Political Science. It started with the keynote address by Dr Hewasa Lorin, Vice Principal, Tetso College where she put forward the statement that the greatest fallacy about professional education is the idea that anyone can teach, and argued that teaching requires special knowledge in teaching skills.
In her address, questions were raised on how do we encourage the weak ones and challenge the stronger ones. She addressed some of the issues faced by the students in the classroom such as correct writing and inability to communicate effectively in their answers.
The first technical session also featured a talk and presentation on professional ethics by Wapanginla Ao, HoD of Management Studies and IQAC Coordinator, C-Edge College. It was based on the UGC Code of Conduct for higher education teachers focusing on two parts of the code namely teachers and responsibility and also teachers and students. It was followed by an interactive session where the participants together with the resource persons shared on their experience as teachers of higher education and how to tackle challenges based on the practicability.
The second technical session on language usage was based on more interaction and practical exercises. It has two parts namely introduction to phonetics and mind your language which was conducted by the English Communicative Skills team of the college. The first part was taken over by Dr Chubatola Aier who delivered on the theoretical introduction to phonetics and evaluation exercise, followed by phonetics practical session by Meyatemsu Longkumer, HoD of English Department.
The second technical session also had a practical session on language usages which was taken over by Daisy Shitio, Academic Dean and Asst Professor of English Department. The programme concluded with the awarding of certificates for the participants.
