Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today asserted that the present DAN government was paying special attention to the welfare and development of ‘backward areas’ and at the same time called upon its people not to remain as ‘backward’ but to come forward and compete with the rest of the state in all fields.
Inaugurating the science stream building of Sao Chang (government) college here this afternoon, the Chief Minister said that the DAN government has made special mention in its manifesto about development and uplift of backward areas in terms of boosting their economic conditions including infrastructure, education and health-care at the level of the rest of the state.
Referring to the demand for 25 per cent reservation by ENSF, Rio assured that the government will resolve the issue after the committee appointed to look into the reservation submits its report. Rio termed the introduction of science stream at Sao Chang College as a welcome step and expressed the hope that its students will perform and excel so as to become contributors and not liabilities.
Also stating that the job opportunity in government sector has reached at saturation point, Rio challenged the educated unemployed youth to involve in private sectors both within and outside the state. The government has been sending several Naga youth for undergoing training in various trades in different parts of the country and abroad as well.
He also revealed that the state government will be sending 15 boys and girls to study in UK this year. ‘We are sending people to learn music and sports,’ he said adding that the government has been initiating various steps, which are targeting at empowering the Naga youth. He also wanted the youth to be positive in their approach and work ‘at the brighter side of life.’
Earlier, Alempokba, Principal Sao Chang College delivered the welcome address while Vinvuhu Lhoungu, president of teachers association chaired the function. Minister for Transport and Communication Imtilemba Sangtam, Parliamentary Secretary P. Chuba Chang, MLA Heno were also present at the occasion. Later, Rio inaugurated Balak MI project at Tuensang village the same day. Tomorrow, Rio will inaugurate the upgraded Government Higher Secondary School at Noklak.
