Committed to reconciliation at the highest level: Swu

Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): The President (Yaruiwo) of the Government Peoples Republic of Nagalim Isak Chishi Swu has stated that the National Socialist Council of Nagalim has “never closed the door on reconciliation” and that it was “sincerely committed to the Naga reconciliation at the highest level based on the historical and political rights of the Nagas”. Swu stated this in a speech delivered on the occasion of the 64th Naga Independence Day, August 14, 2010.

Also expressing gratitude to the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) for their tireless efforts, Swu pointed out that when he had given his signature in the “Covenant of Reconciliation” as the Yaruiwo of the Republic of Nagalim, his “heart was filled with great pride and hope”. “I have still not given up that hope because it is the only way for the Nagas to understand together”, stated Swu in his speech.

Stating that it was “quite natural that in order to sabotage the reconciliation and unity among the Nagas, evil elements would be actively working against the reconciliation process”, Swu pointed out that when “the people do not waver in their decision for national cause, such evil elements will simply vanish themselves”.

On the political negotiation with the Government of India, Swu pointed out that this was continuing for more than thirteen years now and thanked the Naga people for the patience and valuable inputs from various individuals and organizations. “I assure the Naga people once again that NSCN has not compromised and will not compromise on the issue that will endanger our future”, Swu stated. Pointing out that a political solution can be found only on the basis of the recognition of the unique history of the Nagas and reminded that the Government of India has made this recognition on July 11, 2001 in Amsterdam.

Swu however cautioned the Naga people against the propaganda and disinformation by “certain vested interests that would disturb the ongoing political talks with the Government of India”. “Our history is very clear to us; our issue is very clear and our right is also very clear to us.

We are not confused; we know what is best for us and we will decide for our own future. No other people can determine our future”, Swu reaffirmed.

Swu pointed out that Nagas must also need to be able to “distinguish the wolves from the sheep” and cautioned that the “enemy at times will come in sheep’s skin or with angelic voice but its ultimate objective is to keep us under perpetual subjugation”. “Therefore, it will keep us (the Nagas) mercilessly divided and sub-divided so that we will never get strong”. Swu maintained that the time has come for the Naga people to say “a big no” to the pseudo-patriots as well as reactionary traitors straightaway. “Those who shout unity and reconciliation at the top of their voices with evil motive are found sowing tirelessly the seeds of discord, distrust and disinformation”, Swu alleged while stating that the NSCN will not “shirk from the national responsibility entrusted to it even by cond3emning such people, whoever he or she may be”. “Because we know for sure, he or she who cannot stand up for the cause of freedom in life or in death is not worthy of freedom”.

Further it was stated that “sometimes the invaders come in the guise of rescuers and start oppressing the local population to meet their selfish ends”. “If the oppressed people mistake the oppressors for rescuers, the oppressed people will continue to work for the oppressors. They will never be liberated. Without being able to recognize the invaders, how can they say they are struggling for liberation? Rather they are struggling for subjugation”, the speech stated.

On the functioning of the GPRN, Swu stated that great improvement had been made during the period of ceasefire both at the centre and regions. Swu appealed that the GPRN must continue to give efforts to meet the challenges of the future and urged the individuals who are holding responsibilities in the government not to part with qualities of a true patriot. “Individual character is the foundation on which a nation stands. If the persons on authority lose their character, there is a real danger for the nation for which you choose to serve”. Swu reminded that every NSCN member should be aware of this danger “because it is the only enemy that can destroy our foundation and nation”. Swu also affirmed that the NSCN will never betray the national principle, the Naga people nor betray God.

With regard to Naga Independence on August 14, 1947, Swu acknowledged that AZ Phizo the then President of NNC proclaimed the “independence of Nagalim” “unifying all Naga areas including free Nagalim and endorsing copies to the United Nations and India”. The Naga people still uphold the proclamation and will faithfully continue to uphold it, Swu stated.

In addition to the proclamation of independence, Swu stated that the Naga people had expressed their will through the method of a free and fair plebiscite and the result of the plebiscite was 99.9% for a free sovereign Naga nation. Swu reminded that the result of the referendum was communicated to the United Nations, the British Government and the Government of India. “The Nagas took the right decision at the right time which set the course of the Naga nation to the right direction”, Swu stated.

Meanwhile paying tribute to all the parents and family members of all those people who had sacrifice their precious lives for the “liberation of Nagalim”, Swu also appreciated all the citizens of Nagalim, public leaders, churches, various civil societies, village chiefs and all the national workers for the selfless and tireless services rendered for the “liberation of Nagalim”. Swu also thanked all the national workers for their unflinching loyalty to the Collective Leadership and their tireless service to the nation.

Swu also stated that all Naga people and citizens of Nagalim should grateful to the international organization and individuals from foreign countries that are extending their “priceless support and help to the Naga people without expecting any return from us”. Greetings were also extended to all the soldiers and other national workers who are in the field, in hospital, in enemy’s prison and so on.
