Peren District Committee constituted to address the issue pertaining to overcrowding of jails held a meeting at the Peren Jail on March 19.

Peren, March 19 (MExN): The Peren District Committee constituted to address the issue pertaining to overcrowding of jails held a meeting at the Peren Jail on March 19. 

The members of the committee comprising of Vineet Kumar, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Atu Zumvu representing the Office of Superintendent of Police, Wonchibeni V Patton, NJS Secretary Peren District Legal Services Authority and Aonochet Dy Superintendent of Jail Peren attended the meeting. 

During the meeting, the committee assessed the available infrastructure in the jail and the requirement for construction of constructing more jails or enhancing the capacity of the existing jail to meet the standard laid down in the Model Prison Manual 2016. The committee also assessed the requirement of incorporating Artificial Intelligence and introducing video conferencing for conducting mulakaats and tele medicine facilities for the ease of the inmates, stated a press release issued by WV Patton, Chief Judicial Magistrate/Secretary, Peren District Legal Services Authority. 

The committee also had comprehensive discussions with the Prison administration and conducted a physical examination of the jail facilities. Currently, the Peren jail has only three wards, with capacity for 40 male inmates/prisoners and 20 female prisoners.  The 1st quarterly Under Trail Review Committee (UTRC) meeting was also held on March 19 at Peren District Jail which was attended by all the members of the UTRC. In the meeting the case of one UTP was endorsed to Panel Lawyer, Italang Ramlia for providing legal aid.
