Dimapur, Dec 6 (MExN): As a run-up for the next general election, NPF party leaders, Peren division held a seminar/orientation program at town hall Jalukie yesterday.
Addressing the gathering, TR Zeliang, Rajya Sabha disclosed that the long anticipated ‘promise’ made by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, for employment of 10,000 unemployed youths, during his recent visit to Nagaland, will soon be realized. A committee for this has been set up at the centre, Zeliang informed. He also put aptly that “no government stands without the people’s support” and the DAN government, he said, without a doubt has the support of the majority of the people. The MP also encouraged party workers to recall the various developmental works being carried out by the present government under the district and use them to act as the main linkages between the governing bodies and the general public.
6th A/C Tening MLA Tarie Zeliang, who also spoke at the occasion, recounted the developmental works undertaken by the present government and asked the people of the district to ‘rise up and give due appreciation and evolve a work culture for socio-economic growth.’ Replying to a query that governmental machineries are falling apart, he assured that the government is functioning smoothly and “one should not be misled or swayed by unfounded and unwarranted propagandas and imaginary rumors true to the party spirit.”
A brief profile of the present NPF was given by Chuba Temjen Ao Secretary General NPF (C). He asserted that the party in the past made ‘many supreme political sacrifices’ for the Nagas and even today, the party is firm in its stand and commitment for a peaceful settlement of the Indo-Naga political problem. “If a permanent solution acceptable to all Nagas can be brought about, the party is ready to make another highest political sacrifice by stepping down from the seat of governance any time” he said and asked party workers to lend support and choose the right leader in the next general elections.
Visevonuo Dzüvichü, General Secretary of NPF Women Wing, spoke on the role of women in contemporary Society. “Nature gave women too much power; the law gives them too little,” she said quoting Will Henry, American political advisor and columnist. While examining the ‘plus points’ of women in politics, she asserted that if politics is played properly, total and all-round development, awareness of rights, development of one’s qualities as a leader and greater responsibility as cultured citizens would be brought about in every individual.
Earlier, Vice President, NPF (C)/Peren Division in-charge, Ghosito Yepthomi, exhorted party workers ‘to do better with more effort.’ The day-long seminar was attended by NPF party leaders from the district. The Minstrels Band of Jalukie ‘B’ performed a special number (NPF Anthem composed by CM Nephiu Rio).
