DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): The Committee on Government Assurances led by its chairman, MLA Dr Chotisuh Sazo conducted a spot verification on the construction of bridge between Purana Bazaar and Walford, Dimapur on Tuesday. A press release issued by Commissioner & Secretary, N Benjamin Newmai said the committee was briefed that even though the work order was issued in February 2010, due to various reasons including objection from BRO, court cases etc, the work could resume only in 2017.
At present, the completed portions of the bridge include pile foundation of 3 piers, cable suspension bridge, retaining wall, reconstruction of two pile caps, three mid piers and piling work for abutment wall. The bridge is expected to be ready by December 2019.
The committee after verifying the spot was satisfied and encouraged with the department for giving all out efforts to complete the project within the stipulated time, it said. The committee meanwhile suggested the department to strengthen the cable suspension bridge for pedestrian safety or restrict its usage completely, and enhance the river draining from 50 meters to at least 200 meters.
Other members of the committee who were present for Tuesday’s verification included legislators Dr Imtiwapang Aier, YM Yollow, L Khumo Khiamniungan, Mhathung Yanthan, Toshi Wungtung. They were accompanied by Commissioner & Secretary, N Benjamin Newmai and officers of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
The director of Urban Development with engineers and officials of the PWD department received the members of the committee at Circuit House, Dimapur, the press release added.
