Committee suggest measures to ease Kohima traffic problem

Kohima, May 27 (DIPR): The Traffic Committee of the Kohima District and Development Board held its third meeting on May 27 in the Office Chamber of ADC Kohima. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Chairman DPDB and Advisor, IT & C Vikho-o Yhoshu and also attended by Chairman MTF & NKVIB, Dr. Nicky Kire besides other committee members.
At the outset, ADC Kohima and Administrator, KMC, Alun Hansing read out the report of sub-committee under High Power Committee to suggest measures for improvement of the traffic system in Kohima. The members of the sub-committee had conducted a physical verification in various locations in the State Capital on May 6, 2011 and suggested measures to ease the chronic traffic problem in the town.
The sub-committee verified various locations like Lerie Junction, below Hotel Japfu, Para-medical Junction, High School Junction and Old Assembly Secretariat area, etc. The Kohima DPDB Traffic Committee felt that uncontrolled use of roads by way of parking randomly and without time limit must be regulated. To enforce traffic rules strictly to all government authorities and all stakeholders should take urgent decisions and necessary measures to ease traffic movement and endless traffic jams in the Capital Town. The members deliberated on various problems faced in the town with regards to traffic congestions and decided to take up major issues and recommendations with the high power committee. The major issues include recommendations on the ever increasing number of vehicles in the town and parking problems, suggestions for traffic diversion routes, enforcement of traffic rules, widening/improvement and construction of roads, feasibility of constructing flyovers etc.
